What is RateMyCRM?
RateMyCRM is a brand-new tool for professional pilots that is designed to provide you with honest feedback and accurate insights into your non-technical skills and crew resource management skills from the people that matter most – your crew.
RateMyCRM employs several tested and proven scales to provide you with feedback on your non-technical skills, how you come across, and whether you exhibit any hazardous attitudes. There is also an option to provide free text feedback on positive and negative behaviors. While the NoTechs scale is at the heart of RateMyCRM, it is completely up to the user to chose which feedback forms to add.
How good is your CRM?
We all believe that we are great at CRM. But is that really true? How do you know how good your CRM skills are? It’s true that many airlines use the NoTechs system to provide their crews with feedback on their non-technical skills. But that usually occurs during check rides. This means that a lot is at stake, the setting is artificial, and the time for observing behaviors is limited.
Clearly, that impairs the quality and value of the feedback. Some pilots ask their colleagues directly, for example over a drink at the hotel bar at the end of the day. The problem with that is of course that they may be reluctant to be completely open and frank with you: either because they don’t want to ruin the atmosphere, or because they feel that you may not really be appreciative.
How does RateMyCRM work?
RateMyCRM was meticulously crafted to offer a seamless user experience, ensuring accessibility without compromising on the depth of insights provided. Upon registering, your journey begins effortlessly as you extend invitations to your peers, encouraging them to share their feedback. Their feedback remains confidential until seven responses are gathered, which means that your colleagues can rest assured that their identity is protected. This guarantees honest and accurate responses.
Presently, RateMyCRM boasts an array of versatile question sets and scales:
- Central to our platform is the NoTechs Scale, a scale that encompasses key dimensions such as Cooperation, Leadership & Managerial skills, Situation Awareness, and Decision Making. Results are presented comprehensively, allowing for both an overview and detailed analysis.
- Additionally, three text fields are available to answer questions such as “What should I do more?”, “What should I do less or stop doing altogether?” The results are presented in a randomized order.
- The Perception Self/Others scale provides valuable insights into how one perceives themselves versus how they are perceived by others. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for effective leadership, ensuring alignment between intent and perception.
- Lastly, the Hazardous Attitudes scale warns you if you display attitudes such as Anti-Authority, Impulsivity, Invulnerability, Macho, and Resignation.
You can freely choose which scales you wish to use in addition to the No-Techs scale, which forms the foundation. New exciting feedback forms are in development, e.g. dedicated feedback for pilots with training roles.
RateMyCRM for
Captains
As Captain, you know how important crew management skills are, and you appreciate the importance of coming across as a true team leader to your crew. However, getting honest and accurate feedback on your valuable soft skills becomes difficult once you have that fourth stripe. Despite your best efforts, your crew may be reluctant to be completely upfront with you. There are many reasons why: Concerns about ruining the work atmosphere may be one of them.
RateMyCRM takes the awkwardness out of giving feedback. Anyone giving you feedback can rest assured that their identity is protected. If you think back to your time in the right seat, do you remember flying with Captains who were convinced they were great at CRM, but actually weren’t? Or Captains who were great persons, but had this one little annoying habit that everybody was too polite to tell them about? RateMyCRM will provide you with the insights that you need to perfect your leadership skills and maintain them at high levels.
RateMyCRM for
First Officers
As First Officer, your ability to work well in a team is vital. Superior flying skills and technical knowledge form the basis of your success as an aviator, but it’s the ability of working well in a team that will set you apart. How well are you doing in that respect? Once your command upgrade comes closer, it is important to realize that you will be judged mostly based on your capability to lead your team and manage your resources. RateMyCRM will help you to identify your strengths and weaknesses and give you invaluable insights into how you come across to your crew.

Pricing
There’s a fundamental truth when it comes to free offerings online: nothing truly comes without a cost. Many “free to use” applications operate by either harvesting and monetizing user data or relying on advertisements, which in turn gather their own set of data through tracking.
We made a deliberate choice not to offer RateMyCRM for free. Your data remains yours and is not traded for profit, and your activities within the application are not subject to tracking. Consequently, you won’t encounter any advertisements on our platform. However, this also means that we need to levy a nominal fee to sustain the website’s operations.
To access the feedback provided to you, you’ll need to purchase feedback credits. Each feedback will consist of at least seven responses from your colleagues. The pricing options for feedback credits are as follows:
- One feedback credit costs €4 (approximately $4.3/£3.4)
- Three feedback credits cost €10 (approximately $10.8/£8.6)
- Ten feedback credits cost €25 (approximately $27.1/£21.4)
Please note that prices may be subject to local taxes and changes in the exchange rate.
